[ About Mayank ]
"I want to know God's thoughts; the rest are details." --Albert Einstein Mayank is a technology writer by accident, a hacker at heart, a student by force and a Free and Open Source Software supporter by choice. Mayank began writing on technology at 17. His first articles were for the Indian Express and OracleZone. He officially got the freelance writer tag when he began writing for an Indian newbie computer magazine -- Computers@Home. At 18 he was featured on India's first technology channel -- TMG Enter -- as India's youngest freelancer. Mayank's first 'real Linux articles' were for LinuxLookup.com. This was also when his articles began being linked on popular news sites like LinuxToday. In January 2003, Mayank began freelancing for India's first magazine on Free/Open Source Software -- LINUX For You -- which hit the stands the following month -- February 2003. After completing his 'A' Level classes in July 2003, Mayank joined LINUX For You (popularly called LFY) as its Assistant Editor. At LFY, Mayank's key role was to provide meaningful content to both the FOSS community and the emerging Linux Industry. Co-ordinating the in-house team of authors in Delhi and Bangalore, as well as freelance writers from all over the country (and sometimes abroad) was an interesting experience. Meeting new people, sharing ideas, discussing strategies gave Mayank a unique look to the nascent industry that was building around an open source kernel. LFY decided to celebrate its first anniversary in February 2004 with an event focussed on bringing the FOSS Industry leaders (and their ideas) from all over the world to a podium in India. Being an integral part of the LFY family, Mayank did his bit in organizing Linux Asia 2004. After the event, the LFY family enjoyed a two-day 'adventure' with the global leaders of the FOSS Industry. Thanks to the trip, there are certain FOSS icons that Mayank can call friends. While everyweek at LFY could be described with an adjective, Mayank decided to exit the LFY family to continue his studies. On 10th May 2004, Mayank quit LFY. Incidently it was also the 21st time that he held a knife to 'the' cake with a conical cap on his head. Currently, Mayank is freelancing for various online international publications including NewsForge, Linux.com, ITManagersJournal, IBM developerWorks and others. He writes on various technical as well as social topics related to FOSS. A complete list of his articles can be found on the Writings Page. |
